it is nice to live so close to the park and playground. we can walk down there when its nice out and play and go on the swings. i have a lot of fun swinging, and checking out the other kids at the playground. when i'm a little bigger, i'll try the slide and monkey bars.

summer sun
not sure how i feel about this hat...i feel like it is a bit childish. i am ready to don something a little more sophisticated. and it doesn't really keep the sun out of my eyes. not sure why it is called a sun hat.
eating dad's lens cap
dad and i went to the farmer's market while mom was in london. in this shot, i am eating dad's lens cap....
hike to heather lake
my goodness...was this hike cold. there was so much snow at the top! i loved checking out the trees and stuff in my new hiking pack (thanks bob). mom carried me on the way up and dad carried me on the way down. i slept most of the way back.
[enter mom] it was a pretty full on trail and olivia was very into leaning to one side of the pack which made for some precarious climbing...the pack was surprisingly comfortable. our friend bob gave it to us...he climbed mt rainier with his son using this pack! not sure we are that hard core, but we will be doing a lot of hiking for sure.

holdin' on tight
mom and i are playing on a blanket by the pool and gossiping about family stuff with aunt ruru and uncle george. manhattans had been poured at this point and the adults were preparing for a bourbon tasting. and just so you know...the manhattans were for the adults. i was very happy with my yellow sippy cup of water.
me and dad ponderin'
i like hangin' with my dad. we had a lot of fun at aunt ruru's house. she has a swimming pool. in this shot, dad and i are looking very seriously at the pool...contemplating whether or not we should get in. it was so hot that we didn't sit here for very long. louisville is a very hot place. way hotter than seattle.
my friend bianca
we went to aunt kate b's house for a bbq last week and i made a new friend. her name is bianca. she is twice my age (and twice my size). we had so much fun playing together. we ate cheerios off the floor and hugged a lot. what fun!

these could be my parents
yes, i know it looks like i belong to them, but i don't. i promise. this is aunt melissa and uncle john. they live in san francisco and came a for a visit a few weeks ago. we had a lot of fun with them......
raincoat alert
we went to harrison hot springs for july 4th weekend (my mom hates the 4th and fireworks). and it was so much fun. here i am with my dad in a raincoat that my aunt tina gave me. i am typically covered in a stroller when it rains, but i actually prefer to be out in my raincoat!
piggy is my best friend
this is piggy. and he is my best friend. he sleeps with me every night and pretty much goes everywhere i go. mom and dad try not to have him eat with us so that i don't get food in his fake fur, but sometimes i really want him there.
[enter mom] piggy has been a great addition to the family. we started out with sleepy bear, but he didn't really "stick." piggy, however, is definitely a security toy. our doc recommended we introduce something like that. i think the next thing i want to do is make her a doll. i look at the dolls on the market and they kind of freak me out. i think a handmade doll will do just fine. i tried to bring raggedy ann back from ky, but mike totally freaked out...raggedy ann's face made mike feel really uncomfortable.

double chins run in the family
i thought i would imitate my mom in this shot. she is always talking about her double chin making an appearance in photos. i think i have done a really good job of capturing my first double chin.

bed time
going to bed is getting better. i used to get really sad when it was time to hit the sack, usually with lots of tears. now i've worked out that everyone will still be here and still love me when i wake up, so going to sleep isn't as scary any more. plus, I always sleep with piggy now and after a goodnight story or song, piggy and I sometimes talk for a while before we drift off.
sweet tooth (singular)
even though mom and dad complain about how picky I am when it comes to eating, they ought to be happy that I'll eat just about any fruit they offer me. here is a photo from last evening's trip to the farmer's market, with mom giving me some mashed raspberries. so yummy!

aqua-baby
Last weekend Mom and Dad took me to Canada for a couple of nights at Harrison Hot Springs. I really enjoyed swimming in the pool, although the whole 'going-under' thing was a little surprising and strange. I didn't know what to make of being fully under water. I seem to recall a nice feeling from long ago of being surrounded in liquid, but this was different - not so cozy.
Apart from swimming we went on lots of walk and strolled through the arts market. By the time we left we were all very relaxed - so much so that I didn't even mind too much being in my car seat for the long drive home.

food is for faces
this is a rare photo of me having fun while eating. normally i'm so picky that feeding-time is not happy-time. perhaps i am looking so pleased here because i have more on my face than in my belly. my friend lincoln is usually much cleaner than me, but daddy got a photo of him looking grubby too.

i'm judgin' you
yeah, i am being pretty serious in this photo. mom and dad moved the chest in the front room and put down a big carpet so that i could hang out and spread out.
Jah, Rastafari...
this headband felt super weird. i think it was too tight, but i know that can't be because it is my dad's and he has a ginormous head. there was a lot of activity going on around me when this photo was taken. the fam was packing for the trip and i was getting very excited....
[enter mom] i have to admit...i love the headband on baby look. she looks like a little adult!

bathing in the kitchen sink
yeah, not lovin' the kitchen sink. i really prefer my over the top euorpean spa bath that mom and dad use at home. the kitchen actually freaked me out a bit. i thought it was cool for like 2 minutes and then realized i was in a sink. i am on the verge of a breakdown in this photo....
[enter mom] olivia is a bit spoiled when it comes to bath time. she sits in this totally over the top tub that is curved in all the right places. while the sink adventure was funny for the fam, she was not so happy about it.

i love this sippy cup, but...
i don't really drink out of it. i chew it, throw it, hit people with it and bang it on the table, but i haven't quite worked out the drinking part. i think i may have realized that i can suck on it the other day, but it's unclear.
[enter mom] i actually think she did drink from it recently, but that is not the primary reason why she loves it. i think i will try some breastmilk in there and see if that makes a difference.

sleepin' on dad's shoulder
dad and i hung out while mom led the family in yoga. the studio was amazing, but i was a little to rowdy to sit inside. instead, dad and i went outside and i eventually fell asleep on his shoulder. i love that.
[enter mom] the yoga studio was amazing...my goodness! i recently signed up for the yoga teacher training at samadhi and i am very excited. i cannot wait to start teaching olivia yoga....

me and my cousin joe
here i am hanging at the spa with my cousin joe. everyone else is in the hot tub or sauna, but joe decided to hang with me. he seemed to like me a lot. and i like him a lot too. he made me laugh and would cuddle with me.
[enter mom] it was quite amazing to see how olivia's cousin really took to her. they were instant BFF. i think it had something to do with the fact that he was no longer the youngest person at the fam events. and we realized on the trip that all of her favorite toys came from him. cute!

playin' drums
mom bought me this drum from the general store at doe bay. i actually preferred to bang the sticks together. it was really nice sitting out on the lawn and looking at the ocean. i love doe bay. it was so much fun!

stars - they're just like us!
Here are mom and I strolling in Pike Place Market. It's uncanny how much this looks like a paparazzi picture. Dad must think we are famous or something.

wheeeee!
Mom and dad took me for a walk around Seward Park yesterday with my buddy Lincoln and his parents Roger and Gina. It was a bright sunny day, and Lincoln was having a lot of fun climbing all over Roger. Just like me, he loves being upside down.

back in seattle...
after a 9 hour flight, i am in surprisingly good spirits. here i am waiting for the baggage to arrive.
[enter mom] boy, am i spoiled! i flew business class and brought her up with me. she had her own seat...yes, that's right. she had her own "bed" on the plane. she slept the whole flight over to london and then decided to have a MAJOR meltdown in the cab to the hotel. that sucked! on the flight back, she was up a good chunk of it, but didn't fuss much.

arty farty photoshoot
dad is an amazing photographer. he took a series of shots like this one. not sure where it is though. i am sure he will chime in and tell you :)
[enter dad] on this day olivia and i went to the chelsea physic garden, a four-century-old medicinal plant collection. i tried to get olivia to smell some of the flowers, but she was more interested in pulling them apart and eating them (we call her grabby mcsnatchypants these days). eating some of those plants could have been a bad idea, considering they are medicinally active. i had to be watchful.

breastfeeding in the mini
here i am breastfeeding in the mini before going shopping....the photos of me in the back of the mini didn't really turn out, but this one is kinda fun. it was such a cool car!
fauxhawk and tube
this is proof that i actually went on the tube. there is my ticket. and mom and dad styled my hair for the ride...my first fauxhawk!
[enter dad] can you tell that olivia has been eating lots of yams, sweet potatoes and carrots? her nose kind of gives it away.

me and my buddies (at the tube station)
it was awesome to see matt and emma again. i think they thought i didn't remember them, but of course i did! we met them at this gorgeous pub in high street kensington. it was set in this really posh area in the gardens. we sat inside and had a meal, it was pretty crazy inside. lots of energy that got me too excited. mom ended up carrying me around the restaurant to help me calm down.
i am in the tube station in this shot! mom and dad took me on the tube and it was a lot of fun!
[enter mom] yes, the pub was definitely amazing, but people were unwinding in a very loud way. i think it kinda freaked olivia out. she managed to hang tough for about 90 minutes, but then she grew tired of all the rowdiness.
taking her on the tube was an adventure. there are only 2 tube stations in the entire zone 1 system that have elevators. this one was NOT one of them. mike and i lugged the stroller up and down stairs. what we learned is that london is not super kid friendly. if you plan on traveling there with kids, bring your walking shoes...and expect to walk everywhere. the cabs are prohibitively expensive. the bus system is good, but still kinda a pain.

hangin' with emily
i met mom's roommate from college and boy, was she fun. we went to her amazing apartment in notting hill. we met her new boyfriend steven and i liked him a lot. he had a funny accent. he sounded kinda like dad but not quite. after we had lunch, we all climbed into his vintage mini-cooper and cruised over to oxford circus to shop. that was awesome! mom bought a dress from Zara.
[enter mom] it was great catching up with emily. i see her every couple of years when i travel to london for business. we had a wonderful day of eating amazing cheese and drinking wine. the wine helps the credit card slip out of my hands which is why i love to go shopping after having some!

at the pub...
i love the pub. everyone is so friendly and mom and dad get real funny.
[enter mom] i must say, pub life is amazing! i wish we had something like it in the US. going to a bar just isn't quite the same. and every pub is unique...from the people who go there to the beers they serve to the furnishings.

oh, the sun!
i am finally realizing that if i hold my hand in front of my face, then it will block the sun from my eyes. this is a huge discovery for me!
[enter dad] this is on the lawn in front of the natural history museum, which was amazing. The dinosaur exhibit was really good, and olivia wasn't fazed at all by the animatronic t.rex, which even kind of scared me. the mammal section was fantastic too, with a full-scale blue whale. HUGE!

love my sippy cup
i tell you what, i went to a lot of parks on this trip. and never without my sippy cup. i feel very grown up when i use it!
hanging out in hyde park
the weather was amazing! so warm and sunny. mom and dad took me for a really long walk and then we settled down in hyde park. i am watching some amateur breakdancers in this photo. they were really strong, but not very coordinated. it was fun rolling around in the grass with mommy.
[enter mom] it was so lovely to go back to hyde park and just lay in the sun. london is a lot like seattle when it gets sunny. everyone is smiling and buzzing about town. hyde park was packed with all sorts...we saw one guy who was a sid vicious wannabe, but he was having a hard time pulling it off. he kept adjusting his pants (which were way too small lengthwise) and fluffing his hair. a true punk doesn't typically fuss with that kind of stuff. plus, mike said he was sitting in a tree before he walked by. we think maybe he was a bit "out of it."

making new friends...
i got to meet woody and his soon to be bride in london. we met him at the pub and then went to wagamamas for dinner. i had so much fun there. i sat in this really cool chair that attached to the table. i liked it better than most high chairs because i was actually at the table. i sure hope mom and dad get me on of those!
[enter mom] i must say, the chair is amazing. i found one online by a company called phil and ted's and i think we are going to get it. it's light, fits in a diaper bag and is great for kids who prefer to be at the table. olivia is not really into the high chairs where she has her own table. she wants to be at our level.

big girl sleepin' styles
i am a big girl now. mom and dad moved me to my crib last night and i must say, i love how roomy it is. the co-sleeper was starting to cramp my style. it was good for my younger days, but now that i am scooting around backwards and rolling at every chance i get, i need some space to spread out.
[enter mom] it was definitely time to get her in a bigger bed. i went in to her room after a nap and she was sititng up in the co-sleeper. made me think that it was just a matter of time before she grabbed on to the side and pulled herself out of there. her first night in the crib went surprisingly well. she woke up once and cried for about 20 minutes and then fell back to sleep. i feel like she slept better in there....

chillin' at the mt. rainier center
this is me just after a feed at the mt. rainier center. what a beautiful spot. and what an amazing structure in the middle of the mountains.
lil' smirk
this is my adult face. i like to use this when i think someone is being kinda funny, but not really. it's my "you are working really hard on the whole funny thing, but you actually aren't that funny." i think my mom does a similar face, but she has a fake laugh that goes along with it :)
hangin' in the backseat with matt and emma
yeah, i had a really good time riding to mt. rainier. i got to sit in the backseat with matt and emma who are from new zealand. their accents sounded a lot like dad's which was pretty cool. emma made a lot of nice noises to help keep me entertained. it was the longest road trip i had taken. in this pick, emma is encouraging me to grab my wood toy that hands from the carseat.

day in the life of a career mom
[enter mom] i am currently sitting in the san jose airport patiently waiting for my very late plane. i came down yesterday for some meetings and decided to stay the night. i have been extremely tired over the last few weeks and decided to take advantage of a free night away. talk about smartest thing i could have done!
i missed olivia more than usual this trip. i have gone away on business once before and it didn't seem as extreme. probably because i went down and back in the same day. however, this time it hurt my heart a little. i found myself looking at pics of olivia throughout the day and calling mike at night to hear her make noises into the phone.
one thing that i did not take into account was my pumping situation should the plane be delayed. i have pumped more than 30oz on this trip and while that is all good and well, my boobs will pop if they don't get relieved before i fly (it will be 7 hours with this delay). i scoped out the bathrooms and quiet places around the terminal and still didn't feel comfortable. however, i spoke to another new mom who had just pumped and dumped in the bathrooms and decided to take her lead on this one. there i was, sitting half naked in the airport bathroom pumping for the babe. kinda changes your perspective on things. something that is so natural and relaxing becomes a pri 0 task that must happen before i board the plane. no one made faces or comments while i was in the bathroom. though, i wouldn't have been surprised if they had. i can only imagine what it would have been like if i had been in dallas or atlanta.
anyhoo...that's the big news on the new career mom front. pumping in the airport bathroom. the fact that i got into bed at 6pm and did not get out again until 9:30am the next day was truly fabulous. oh....those were the days!

tongue and other news
i must say, i need to get a grip when it comes to showing off my tongue. i seem to be sticking it out all the time these days. i tend to do it when i am really relaxed. we had spent the afternoon on aunt chloe and uncle peter's deck just rolling around on the blanket. it was nice and relaxin'.
[enter mom] our daycare was asking if one of us sticks our tongue out as a habit and we both laughed. she picked this on up all on her own.
in other news....olivia can get herself out of the bumbo now. yes, that's right. at daycare, they put her in it and within minutes she had crawled out. we're are not so wild about this since we loved the fact that we could put her in it and let her hang for a while. she is also doing this thing where she crawls backwards on her back. she moved herself up the bed last night. if only she could figure it out when she is on her belly.
and the other morning she said "da da." she didn't know what it meant, but she said it. it was different from the other times when she does a string of sounds together...like "la la la la or ba ba ba ba." this time she looked at me and said da da. obviously she was confused and just making sounds, but it was cool to hear something somewhat intelligible come out of her mouth. the fact that i consider da da intelligible is a different issue altogether.

mom and dad sandwich
sometimes mom and dad kiss on my so much that it is overwhelming. in this photo, i am playing it really cool.
smilin' with dad
mom is making some funny noises and it makes me laugh. i have noticed lately that my smile has taken on a new form. i am grinning really hard in this photo. almost to the point where it hurts. i have been doing this a lot lately...smiling so hard that people look at me and don't know if they should laugh or what. i just get so excited sometimes and the expression comes out in my face.
[enter mom] yes, it's true. olivia has started smiling REALLY hard. it's funny. she smiles so hard that it almost looks demonic. she's happy as a clam and seems to be channeling all of that happiness into her face.

sleepin' in my stroller
mom and dad take me for long walks each week and i love it when i fall asleep. my new stroller is so comfortable. as you can see in this photo, i am zonked out. i think we walked to denny blaine beach from aunt chloe and uncle peter's house...
my first beer (well, not really)
i love glass bottles, especially beer bottles. since mom and dad drink them quite a bit, I get to play with them a lot. supervised, of course. unfortunately, they won't let me taste what's inside.
[enter mom] i don't know what it is with babies and beer bottles, but they love them. and just so everyone knows, we don't drink too much. no need to call child services :)

another puppy shot
here i am petting the puppy (i cannot tell if this is nutmeg or cinnamon, maybe aunt chloe will confirm). how cool is it that the pup is letting me paw at her face and still stay so calm. not sure about that expression on dad's face. he looks funny.
puppy photoshoot
i love the dogs. they licked me a lot which made me feel funny, but they were very nice to me. they even let me pet them. mom and dad decided to do a photoshoot. dad was more daring than mom when it came to getting me close to the dogs for the photos. here i am with nutmeg...

i love that orange food
yup, that's me with a bunch of orange food all over my face and clothes. and i am holding the spoon! mom and dad really cooed when this happened.
my new stroller
g-ma and grumpus bought me a new stroller and i love it! i get to face forward and feel like a big girl in it. it is a little scary going up and down the stairs, but dad has things under control. i have been to safeway twice in it now. such a smooth ride!
[enter mom] i LOVE this stroller. it is the BOB revolution and i tell you what, it is amazing. ridiculously smooth and easy to maneuver.

me, aunt traci and uncle paul
oh my goodness...did i have fun with these guys or what. we went to st. clouds for brunch and then went for a walk in the neighborhood. aunt traci carried me most of the way and i loved it!
[enter mom] i must say, a baby really suits these guys :) and i love st. clouds! i had the chard pesto eggs and my goodness, they were amazing. and the space is so child friendly.
